Welcome to 6th grade Science!!
This year in 6th grade we will be focusing on Physical Science. We will be studying matter, energy, force and motion, simple machines and some basic chemistry

WHAT DIRECTION DOES HEAT TRAVEL
TYPES OF HEAT TRANSFER-CONDUCTION CONVECTION AND RADIATION
RAILROAD TRACKS ARE MADE OF STEEL. THE TRACKS ARE MADE IN SHORT SECTIONS WITH JOINTS BETWEEN THEM. EXPLAIN WHY USING THE TERMS TEMPERATURE KE PARTICLES AND THERMAL EXPANSION
BENNY CAN’T GET THE METAL LID OFF A NEW GLASS JAR. HIS MOM TELLS HIM TO RUN HOT WATER OVER THE LID. HE DOES AND IS ABLE TO UNSCREW THE LID EASILY. EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPENED. USE THE TERMS-HEAT, TEMPERATURE, PARTICLES, SPECIFIC HEAT AND THERMAL EXPANSION.
THE WATER IN A SMALL POND FREEZES BEFORE THE WATER IN A NEARBY LAKE. COMPARE AND CONTRAST THE TEMPERATURE,TE, AND SPECIFIC HEAT OF THE WATER IN THE POND AND IN THE LAKE
TWO IDENTICAL BRICKS ARE LAYING IN THE PAVEMENT. ONE IS IN THE SHADE AND THE OTHER IS IN THE SUNLIGHT. COMPARE AND CONTRAST THE TEMPS OF THE BRICKS USE THE TERMS HEAT, TE, RADIATION AND CONDUCTION.

6TH GRADE HOMEWORK 11/26-11/30
Chapter 3 review due Thursday
Alternative Energy brochure due Thursday
Ch. 3 test
Know all vocab
Identify different energy conversions in a nuclear generator( based on the flow chart diagram)
Identify different energy conversions that occur in the picture of a kitchen
Essay-THERE ARE ONLY 2!!!!!!
Judy shoots a rubber band toward a tree. The rubber bands hits the tree with a “whap” knocking off a small piece of loose bark and bounces off the tree. Using what you know about PE and Ke, explain the energy conversions in the rubber bands position, its flight, the sound and falling bark.
Suppose that a log is burning in a fireplace. The log contains chemical energy. Identify the energy types that are given off as the log burns. Also, write a definition for the law of conservation of energy. Then explain how this law applies to the examples of the log.
